Cocoon, a city retreat experience

"What if you own an island?" –

Designing a city retreat experience on Herring island

Influenced by the pandemic, the City of Melbourne intended to restore its dynamism. Thus, we were given the opportunity to propose a cultural event or experience to reinvigorate one of the underutilized or underrepresented locations in Melbourne.

Targeting young professionals transitioning to a new stage of life, Cocoon, a rejuvenating overnight city retreat experience was proposed. Visitors can have short retreat that is meditative, rejuvenating and accessible. The tone of voice accentuates embracing, transitioning and reconnection to nature. Translating to visual identity, it shapes the perception of a temporary safe space to escape with forms stylised from therapeutic Indigenous yarn, ripples, and silk. They narrate the mesh of restlessness, homesickness, uncertainty, and the hope to be embraced. Eventually, this system is tested on a range of media application.
